Sri Lanka’s first floating restaurant was opened by president Mahinda Rajapaksa on December 19 in the Beira Lake in Colombo. Named the ‘Pontoon North 8’, it has been launched under the sponsorship of Cinnamon Lake Side Hotel. The 70-feet long restaurant was built at a cost of 100 million rupees.
It can accommodate 100 persons. Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Civil Aviation Services minister Priyankara Jayaratne, MP Sajin Vas Gunawardena, Sri Lankan Tourism chairman Dr. NalakaGodahewa, and chairman of John Keells, Susantha Ratnayake were also present at the event.
